gilera nexus 500

Post by bumblebeetuna »

Im trying to flog my gts 300 and with the money ill be buying an older bike such as a gilera nexus 500.

Does anyone know why when I search for them for sale that they only seem to be 2004 bikes for sale, as im pretty sure they were builkt up until 2009.

Is it just the fact that uk only got 04 bikes then they stopped importing to us or is there some other reason??

Also what is a 2004 nexus 500 worth cos they seem to vary from 2400 - 2900 which seems a bit steep for an 8 year old bike (but i still want one) :!:

I bought my second hand 06 Nexus for £2500 nearly 5 years ago... basically I could sell it now at no loss :D

£2-2500 is a good price for a Nexus with low mileage(more if its from a dealer), I am guessing the 04's are on sale just because they are older and more were sold back then because they had just come out... the newer ones, which sold up until late 2010 I believe, sold in lower quantities and are most likely still in the owners hands unless they got GingerPhil'd.

The Nexus was eagerly awaited in 2004 and had a good initial take up so lots sold on 04 and 54 plates but interest soon waned and they didn't seem to keep their sales figures up like the X9 did. Attempts to stir interest by bringing out the SP model failed as the cheapening of the design with spindly bar mounted mirrors and a hashed job of covering up the old mounting holes didn't tempt old Nexus owners to upgrade.
Most of the ones you see for sale are the original pre-SP models between 04 and 06. I've yet to see one below £2000 but they have a huge gap between trade in value and dealer re-sell price possibly to give dealers a margin for potential electrical gremlins to need fixing. If a dealer is selling at £2400 he will have given a maximum of £1700 for it so any private seller asking over £2000 should be easily negotiable down to £1900 as it is still more than a trade in will fetch.
Main points to check is the bodywork for damage as the panels aren't as easy sourced used as other Piaggio models, and check the dashboard functions and particularly the battery voltage readings for signs of a dud battery or dying regulator. Check the belly pan and foot boards for loose fit indicating broken mounting points.
