Fuel comsumption display K9

Anybody know how the fuel consumption display works on the latest K9? All the manual says is how to switch between miles per litre and litres per mile along with something about the ratio between trip A and trip B. It doesn't even say how to change the display onto the right mode. Can anyone help me out please?

I thought K9 was battery operated.

If your speedo is set to MPH it reads in miles per litre, you scroll through the trip setting, it is the last reading on the trip setting.
If I use it, I reset the trip by holding the reset down for 2 seconds, then press it again, the screen says mls/litre.
It does not give instant readings, just the figure since the reset.
