Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
Yes me its sooo easy to ride, took it out around Maidstone 1-way system [Dave Weller knows where]feet up though the traffic A-20 Round the country roads,up Bluebell hill in 6th gear,it just pulls & pulls down, stuffed it round the roundabouts, back again,it revs and the 3 cyclinder engine is brill.
Just 1 thing i dont like the stepped seat,my bike mad girlie looks over my shoulder.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
With the new 1200 Explorer engine "in play", there's an expectation the Tiger 1050 may be having a facelift as it's a little long in the tooth now. But it does mean (in UK at least) that the pricing is pretty keen and it's a lot of bike for the money. Only thought is a Tiger 800 may suit better for many road uses, though lacks the sportsbike-esque performance.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
I've looked into the Tiger 800 as well. Nice bike. Would like to try both but right now I seem to be interested in the 1050. Here is the spy shot of the 2013 Tiger 1050...
And a brief article.

I do like the single-side swing arm. I think a brand new one may be out of my budget.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
Astounding bike Dan.
Just like Richie the only thing that I don't like is the stepped seat on the 1050.
h and the fact that riding a Tiger turns me into a hooligan!! The only bike I've ever taken through the first 3 gears without the front wheel touching ground which is kind of why I've never bought one.
The engine is an absolute peach and was in 955i form too.
A mate just part ex-d his 1050 Tiger in for a new Explorer and it didn't even hit the showroom floor before someone had snapped it up.
Another mate has one of the first 955i Tigers and it still pulls like new and looks great after 11 years and 50,000 + miles.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
Thanks for the thoughts guys. I've been thinking about getting a new bike very soon and the Tiger 1050 sorta caught me by surprise. New may be too expensive but good used bikes are available at prices between $7-10k US. The only thing I'm really hesitant about is fuel economy. That may make me rethink and look at the Versys or ER-6F. Also found a nice used GSX650F.
Anyway I've never taken one for a ride though I can't imagine not liking it.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
My 955i Sprint RS used to do 55 mpg+ and it never hung around much. My mate's Firestorm used to do 35 mpg on the same rides.
I'll ask Wil what the 1050 used to do.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
Thanks Cap! I will have to convert to US gallons of course but that is no bother. I have been looking on fuelly.com and most reports have been between 40 and 50 mpg US... closer to 40 for the most part. Usually I get better mpg than most folks riding comparable bikes. The only time that didn't happen is when I borrowed my friend's FZ1. No matter how relaxed I rode I could not do better than 42 mpg. Fun bike though.capitano wrote:I'll ask Wil what the 1050 used to do.

Re: Triumph Tiger 1050
I went and took a look at the Tiger 1050 at a local dealer today. I liked everything about it except the price. Would probably get a used one if I decide it is the right bike for me. I sat on three tall bikes at the dealer, the Versys, Tiger 800 and the Tiger 1050. Funnily enough the Versys had the tallest seat followed by the 1050 and then the 800.
The 800 really got my attention again. The bike is very light, I can flat foot it and ABS is standard. I can't flat foot the 1050 but I can get both feet down somewhat. The Versys is either one foot or the other.
I'm a bit torn as many reviewers have stated that the Tiger 800 motor is sedate compared to the 1050 and that it doesn't handle as well. Not that it handles poorly, just a comparative statement. A brand new Tiger 800 is just past the top of my budget but close enough that I would take the plunge. I like the looks of the 800 but love the looks of the 1050.
Test rides will happen as I get closer to buying time.
The Ninja 650 and Versys are still in the running.
