Some of you may already know this but...Just been over to the BurgmanUSA site and noted a recall is in progress for the above models. It seems to be a USA thing, but from the VIN numbers, my new Suzuki 400z ABS is affected. My Vstrom had it's rectifier replaced last year under a Suzuki recall and I noted that started in the States and quickly migrated to the rest of 'Urop'. Looks like it's going to be over here then anytime. The info is as follows according to the busa site...over here VOSA will no doubt take care of it as it is potentially very dangerous if the brakes lights don't work or maybe the engine cuts out whilst you are being followed closely by some idiot (don't know if that can happen).
Recall Summary
Brake lights may fail and rider may not be able to restart the scooter.
Recall Issue
Suzuki has found that the brake light switch may fail when the brake lever is applied slowly and repeatedly in heavy traffic. This can result in the failure of the brake lights and then the rider is unable to restart the engine once they have stopped the machine.
Suzuki are recalling the affected Burgmans and replacing the brake light switch.
Suzuki Burgmans Affected By This Recall
The brake light recall affects 444 Suzuki Burgmans (across all ranges). This recall only affects Burgman 400s and Burgman 650s built between August 2011 and December 2011.
They have VINs in the ranges:-
JS1CG111200101449 to JS1CG114200100111
JS1C7111100100076 to JS1C7111100105732
JS1CG11400100091 to JS1BU132200100999

My Sept 2011 Burgman 650 also falls into the latter Vin number category.
However the My-Suzuki Suzuki UK recall check states it is ok and no recalls..... for now?

Edit - I have just called the UK Customer Services and are getting back to me (Due to it being a Saturday) as there may be recall letters being processed.

It is on their website. Select - Suzuki Motorcycles - Bergman (Spelt incorrectly). Select the date range till April 2012
The reference is RM/2012/002

Mine just falls into the later end, so will print it out and shove it under the dealers nose on its first service next Tuesday

Guys, I've just had some good news. Suzy phoned just now and told me my 400Z ABS has already had the work carried out mid February at their HQ before being sent out to the dealer. So there's no issues outstanding on my machine. I guess it is probably the same for most of you guys too. Let us all know.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Yes, mine was built first part of December last year and mid February it was having the recall work done at Suzy's main tech dept before going out to my dealer for 1st of March pick up. So I guess it's about a 3month lead in from build to dealer. Glad your's is not affected Barry.

Re: Burgman 400 & 650 recall- faulty brake switches?
Just called Suzuki UK this morning and they have assured me that my September 2011 Burgman 650 Vin number within the Vin numbers Vosa have shown, is definitely NOT on the safety recall list to have the brake light switch replaced.
If any UK members are concerned call Suzuki UK Free on 0500 011959 and simply give them your registration number.
