Quite enjoyable in a perverse sort of way. The ride with the instructor was quite informative, would have been better if it wasn't for the rain.

Careful with that. it doesn't matter what the law says, if the company decide that it's part of their conditions that you tell them, and you don't, they could, and probably would, void your insurance in the case of a claim, (if they found out). Of course it's questionably how they would find out if it's not leaked from the DVLA, but it's still a risk. I remember the early days of AIDS when, just asking for a test at your doctors was considered enough to void your assurance in case of death.

I take your point - though the guys at the course said explicitly that you didn't have to tell your insurance company - though would even DVLA know about the course? Since there is no question of points or licences, they shouldn't be involved. Of course, it will be on a nice comprehensive Police database - for one thing if you get caught again, its points with no course option!

Oh FFS, what a load of old cobblers. No you don't need to tell your insurance company. Any convictions? No. A speed awareness course is NOT a conviction. Period. Therefore no convictions. Did you make a claim? No. If an insurance company tried that one on me, I'd have them down the FSA faster than you could say claim. And they'd lose or more likely capitulate, before the FSA whipped their asses. Insurance companies are a bunch of thieving bastards.

Once a company refused to pay a pet claim as they said the consultation fee was over the top. As the fee was from the Royal Vet College, I said that that was highly unlikely and complained to the FSA. With this threat over their heads they even paid out for things that weren't actually covered because I said that they were "unfair terms and conditions" and also stumped up the consultation fee. All of course with no admission of liability. Morale, don't let them have you over a barrel and threaten them with FSA or court action every time. I guarantee they will pay out.

A friend of mine went on one and he was saying that he KNEW the highway code used sub 1950's braking figures for the braking distances and the guys at the awareness course still insisted that they were the best figures to date ?? even though audi quatro 4x4 can almost half the official figures. lol

Hmmm....at least I didn't get that crap. ..all the courses are run entirely independently by each council/police/partnership (whatever), so obviously they are going to vary in content - but also on each individual tutor/instructor.
