Bad day

Post by spaceprobe »

Had a very bad day today. Its my day off and I had purchased one of those LGS spark plugs to see what improvements it would make to the Maxsym. I have a workshop manual and to swap over the plugs all seemed very straightforward ******************. Nightmare, not matter what I took off I could not get to the plug. In the end managed to remove the lower panel and get my hand up from underneath. Was able to pull the cap off but no way could I get a plug spanner on it. So I guess I am going to have to swallow my pride and pop it into a workshop to be fitted that is unless anybody as a bright idea. Mind you at least it was not as bad as the vid I have just watched of an American trying to fit plugs to his Burgman 650 and having to remove the radiator :o

Thats sounds annoying, on my SYM GTS 250i spark plug access is available in seconds! There's two small
covers on the side of the tunnel that pop out by hand (held in only by tabs). Once removed the spark plug is
immediately accessible!

Thats whats put's me off the bigger cc scooters...To much faffing about just to do simple jobs!

Should've got a 400 Burgman! Takes just 5 mins with one tiny panel off...... ;) Seriously, it' can't be that hard surely? What does the owners manual say about changing the plug? Other than a test ride, I've not had my mucky hands on one yet so can't really offer any worthwhile advice. Sorry bout that spaceprobe. Oh...found the road test of your bike. It'll be on the way in a little while.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...

It was a nightmare on the burgman 650, i recall doing it with a lot of swearing. On the burgman 400 though it's a breeze.

Well you would have thought so considering how easy it is to get to the rest of the service parts. The book says remove the underseat storage but that made no difference. Called out a mobile mechanic (who has just left), he said these are often difficult and he went in from underneath with an extra long ratchet, job done in 5 minutes £30. He did say that apart from the exhaust SYM's were indestructible and he also said sports plugs were a good idea for Maxi scooters since the plugs are often small for the CC's and do not burn that efficiently. Anyway it sounds great and I am looking forward to heading off to work in a minute to see how it runs, will let you all know
