I've just got back from a couple of days in North Yorkshire with Burgman Riders UK. And very enjoyable it was indeed.
The weather was kind to us and we had an excellent Wednesday afternoon making our way to our B n B in Pickering.Meeting up with others along the way. The group eventually numbered 8 in total 5 on Burgmans and 3 on Motorbikes - very nice bikes indeed. Two superb Triumphs and a Big BMW 6 cylinder.
On the Thursday, after a great Breakfast we set off into the wilds of North Yorkshire led by Steve on his B 650. First stop - Sutton Bank from where - sadly you could not see my house.
Through Thirsk onwards to Masham, (pronounced Massam, not Mash Em - just so you know). From Masham and a walk to the Blacksheep Brewery - onto Barnard Castle, a place, despite living in that area until 12 I had never visited. There is a Blue Plaque that says "Gerard Never Came Here - Thank ****". Despite that its well worth a visit. From there onto High Force and a walk down to the actual falls - described by Phil as - "Only watter going ower sum rocks Mon". He was right though - it was Watter going ower sum Rocks!
We then opted for a long run over to Whitby for some Fish and Chips. Great riding all the way. After that it was back to the Digs in Pickering.
It was my first ride out with the Burgman Group and it wont be the last! Great bunch of Guys and all had a very open attitude to whatever you wanted to ride.
I know group riding is not for everybody and that's fair enough. Done well with others who are of the same mind set as to speed etc. I personally find it great fun and its certainly the way to benefit from others knowledge of an area.
On the way up I know Mark had joined up with Bill and he had taken him into the Peak district.
Of our group of 8, 4 of us were newbies and just as it is in the Muppets, made to feel very welcome. If you have an open attitude then you get welcomed into the group. If a group ride out or meeting is something you would like to try but maybe feel you will be an outsider, then I can say clearly - go for it and give it a try. You will be made very welcome at any meet up be it the Maxi Muppets. Burgman UK ,(not just for Burgmans), the X9 group or whatever. A couple of days away from home recharges the batteries a treat.
The only disappointing thing for me personally was the lack of interest in my carefully prepared talk on - Gerard - the early years, was not as well received as I had hoped. The opportunity for taking pictures of me against interesting backgrounds was also lacking in support. There's no pleasing some is there?

Re: Out with Burgman Riders UK
It's nice to get out and about with like minded people. I've been a member of the group since 2011/2012 when I got my new B650 L1, alas not as yet met any members or been on an outing. I do miss the B650 and very tempted to get the latest model in used form at a good price.
