Bit of a service on the SYM GTS300.
  • Checked cam valve gaps - still perfect .10 and .15mm after 20,000km.
  • New tyres, Maxxis again front and back as they are fab.
  • New EBC HH sintered pads front and back + checking pistons are free + silicone plumbers grease.
  • 10cc less fork oil and switched to 5W for both front forks for a softer front end (107cc 10W as standard).
  • Rusty exhaust de-rust and spray with XHT paint.
  • Thought I'd change the air filter, surprised to see it needed changing so badly!
  • Ordered new CR8IEX plug as the old one is just a bit old now.
  • Fitted rubber cushions to help support the big Isotta screen against the instrument binnacle.

So, today on the SYM GTS300 was the new DNA filter install, looks very posh, new CR8IX plug gapped to 0.65mm), general cleaning and oiling, purge of the oil trap, engine oil change (0w40 Mobil 1), change of the gearbox oil (140W), stuck it all back together again.

Ready for use again now, but It still needs a wash though.

If I still had a local SYM dealer I'd have chopped it in for a new one, probably every 2 years, as one ends up changing an awful lot of bits if you keep a scooter, bits that automatically renew themselves if you buy new ones on a regular basis :)

Looked at it. Got some red lining and maxi muppet stickers to put on it. But until I'm better it'll have to wait. Us admin and Mods are in the wars at the mo.

Not too bad thanks

Luckily I've got an outside water tap not far from the garage. I ran cold water over it for a long while - stopped it from blistering but I've got a new Kwai Chang Cain tattoo all up the inside of my arm.

Glad you had cool water handy!!
I can imagine the sleeves of heavy jackets being a no-no for a while though.

Oh dear! I bet you won't do that again in a hurry!! :o I once used my foot to cushion a GSX1400cc engine from landing on the workshop floor. I didn't do that again either.... I did however have crush resistant work boots on which did help.

Hope it heals ok mate.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Oh...full service on the Burgman today. Oil, filter, air filter, spark plug, brakes, changed brake fluid, changed engine coolant, tranny oil etc etc. runs superbly and no problems. Lovely bike and gave it a clean. Just back from my test ride.
