Burgman 200 won,t run

Post by Tommy Tarmac »

Hello guys this is my first post so please be patient bought a burgman 200 a few weeks ago did 80 mile on it then filled it up with shell V power unleaded did another 5 mile, put it in the garage, the day after it would not start an has,nt run since the fuel seemed to be very oily (I definitely did not put diesel in) we drained the tank put fresh petrol in cleaned the fuel lines but still won,t run my local bike mechanic says in 35 years he has,nt seen anything like it
It has a good spark timings ok tappets ok compression ok the computer does not throw up any faults if it's left for a while it now runs for a second or two makes a strange noise then shuts down he says it could be a sensor the ecu is shutting down due to the fuelling problem apparently this is a rare model in the uk and he,s struggling to get info on it it's a 2010 model with only 3900miles on clock has had four services and has only done 30 miles in the last two years if anyone could throw any light on this problem I would be truly grateful this is my first ever scooter after forty years biking arthritis being the reason those first 80 mile were brilliant but boy am I badly pissed off now

welcome, bet you are pissed of..
so the scoot turns over the engine with a spark? i cant see any reason that the fuel would be the issue its just a higher octane with added cleaners in it.
being stood for a long time will have an effect on the battery, has the garage tried a different battery??
if your battery is knacked it may be it has not got enuf power to run the systems, just a thought. as may have had a charge for the sale, then being stood overnight its lost its charge again cos it was a stood knacked battery.. you will be suprised how many times this has happened

if scoot turns over for a couple of seconds i know you will have checked the usual
1. sidestand switch not stuck? its used as a non start switch when left down. Its down on the kickstand at top where the nut is . and can get gummed up causing it to not be in the up position for starting.
so id check sidestand
also id have the variator - clutch cover off and check the belt , you can turn the engine over from variator nut to check rotation.
keep us informed of progress :)
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Could the oily residue be fuel stabilizer?

With that little mileage check fuses and rectifier/regulator.

The contacts can corrode in the connector boot,

Battery always s good place to start

Many thanks for replys the battery is new the engine turns over ok on the button I don,t think that would happen if it was the side stand cut out.
The engine does actually start but only runs for about 2 seconds max then just cuts out and if I remember rightly I think th word ERROR showed up on the digital time clock on the instrument panel.
Many thanks again for any help and advice .

Most scoots with side stand down will turn over. But wont start for safety. 5 min job to. Check if seized switch
Silly one here...killswitch set to run?????? We have all done it
Take injector off side of throttle body and see if fuei is spraying when turning
Just thoughts
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

As I recall Suzuki just show a single bar as error code.

I'd check the ecu pins (picture 2 on link)

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/361492756152

And even if its not that whilst boot off fill it with dialectic grease
