If I'd been living in London and commuting thereabouts I might well have done. I imagine even the traffic in the big city would give that a wide berth if it came filtering by If you still fancy one they are out there - the prices haven't risen massively (for all but the nicest ones) but it's just that there are far fewer to choose from nowadays.

It made a very good top box! Occasionally a cargo net was a good idea, depending on what/how much you were carrying...



That was my one and only success with Chinese machinery. I bought that bike for £60 - we had to cut it free from the hedge it was in - and I swapped the 50cc Honda engine with a lad who restores Cubs for a load of cosmetically-challenged but serviceable parts. I built it up and re-wired it for 12V, and then I had a complete machine that just needed an engine. The unbranded 110 I bought second hand for £30 blew up on the way home from the MOT (it passed though!) new ones were so cheap (£150 then) that I bought a new one and stuffed that in, along with an ATC110 copy carb, which worked brilliantly. It would pull 50 on the flat with me (15st) on board and was brilliant in traffic.

That picture was early in its development. It acquired a cut-down Rickman screen after that, an oil cooler (because my thrashing was cooking the stuff in 500 miles), a massive air horn, Burgman 400 battery in the top box so said horn (and indicators) always worked on cue, 12V socket for sat nav, halogen headlight, and more. I did 10000 hard miles commuting in three years into Leeds every day; a mixture of WOT A-road thrashing, throttle on the stop stuff and cut-throat city riding, and sold it as a going concern. Cubs, sadly, are too expensive these days for that sort of thing; I imagine the logical successors are the Innova (which I also had - a better bike in all respects & early carbed ones can be had cheaply these days) and the SH125.

PS Jim - that must be a trick of the light. The Chinese do clear indicator lenses for the Helix (as well as some nasty chromed plastics) but mine's got good old orange ones.

Cracking little bike... it could be ridden for fun, rallied and toured! Happy days.

Those were the days. I had both the C50 and the C90. Did huge mileages on both of them and they just kept going. Although I did replace the piston and barrel on my C50 at 21,000 miles because I was just 16 and wanted to!! With gaskets it cost me about 5 bob! I don't actually think it needed it.Lol... It pointed the way to my future...Lol...

Brilliant bikes, but as Jaz said, not really worth the money they are fetching these days.

Yeah, agreed! You can buy a brand new C125 which is frankly far better for £2,750 otr at various dealers. Even cheaper if you get a pre-reg model with 0 miles on the clock at around £2,500. It's a brilliant bike too. Lots of accessories for it so you can build it the way you like it. I'm tempted!

Yea they do look interesting - But only one seat, if only I was younger? Many years ago I bought a C90 for less than £20, after a bit of work I used it for a while....really a wonderful little bike.

My Red Foresight has just over 50200 miles and looks almost as good as New with no dings, rides beautifully, has two seats, new Givi Windscreen and new Givi top box with new Givi backrest, OEM New chrome carrier and new battery, - really lovely bike but not sure whether I’ll ride it due to (my) age 82
