Acceleration loss

Hi,

I’ve had my 2015 Suzuki Burgman for a few months now, and today to pulling away at roundabout me as I was coming off it briefly lost acceleration, was just rolling forward, even turning the throttle didn’t do anything

So closed the throttle and rev it up and it picked up again. Only did it for maybe 3-5 seconds Engine didn’t stall and the rev counter didn’t drop

New to scooters. So wondering if anyone had an idea what it could have been? It’s not done It before in the 4 months I’ve owned It.

Depending on you mileage it my be time for a service on the transmission ? New belt / rollers etc.

Sounds like Belt slip. Do you know when belt was last changed?

If the engine revs when you twisted the throttle, it does suggest that there is something amiss in the transmission, its not changing ratio correctly. Maybe belt is worn, or its just caked in dust / gunge and the whole thing's just sludgy.

It had new rollers and belt in October, i did notice after these were done I have to rev it much more to get it to accelerate/get moving

Can you tell us who did the belt and roller change? Was it Suzuki dealer or non franchised motorcycle shop? Or a non scooter trained mechanic or diy'er?

Could need the tranny to be opened up again to see what's going on. It sounds as if the variator is sticking on its shaft or you have a clutch issue. I'd be wanting to check the retaining nuts for variator and clutch to make sure they are not loose too.

Also, it might just be the bike needs a service as well. But very suspicious the trouble has come so close to the tranny work that you had done last month. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Was an official Suzuki dealership, the bike done over 12k miles now with over 2k done by me. It runs smoothly just tue throttle response and the lost of acceleration earlier today

So is it actually going ok now? Was the problem just a single issue or is it an intermittent one? Where are you located, in UK and if so where abouts? Just thinking if you are near me I can pop to check it if you wish, will glady help. But I'm north Essex. I'm ex-tech and Suzuki trained on some of their scooters, mostly the big ones but the smaller ones are easier to work on. Simples!

It started after they did the work.

Before hand it would get up to speed at 6k revs.

But when I have the work done in October I’m having to
Rev a lot more, 7-8,000 for it to pick up speed.

Ok dm, I'm just up the A12 not far from you. However, before anyone else touches it I would strongly advise you to pop back to the shop who carried out the work and tell them of the problem. The work has a warranty with it as do the parts. Several things come to mind as to what may be wrong but don't delay, take it back right away as damage could occur if something is coming loose. It might also become dangerous.

If all else fails I can take a look for you to diagnose the issue. Just something to note however, I'm going into hospital for surgery imminently and I may not be able to walk for a while. A while being several weeks with around 4 months of intensive physio to follow. Ain't going to be doing any tech work after that for at least 8-9 months. Good luck & let us know how you get on.
