Steve, not enough pie & mash can have that effect! It's critical you top up your p&m levels. This may mean another ride out in the not too distant future to obtain the cure! Hang in there buddy...all is not lost! We must contact famed consultant Dr Mottza for more treatment!

My 400 was "groaning" each time I took off. As others have said a good clean out and deglaze stopped mine and with the faster take offs I've not had a recurrence. It wasn't vibrating so much though only slightly but giving quite a loud groan. Hasn't done it for ages thankfully, and has just sailed through an MOT last week.

I'm with everyone else and would suspect the clutch.
A few brisk take-offs can deglaze the clutch shoes, or running up the engine against the rear brake does the trick but this also releases dust which can start to gum up clutch shoe pivots.
If you are reasonably confident with a set of spanners it's not a difficult job to strip and clean the clutch. If not it shouldn't be expensive at the garage.

Yes, you can do that. But that technique is a very temporary method and doesn't actually deglaze anything. It actually makes glazing worse. But it will give some very temporary relief is some cases as it helps remove some of the dust. It just depends how bad the situation is. Often what happens is owners tend to keep doing this when symptoms appear rather than taking it apart to actually fix the issue properly and this has the effect of over heating the clutch. That's why some bikes have bluing of the clutch covers/bells because owners over do it.
