Watsonian have Burgman outfit for sale wth a Monza sidecar which looks very nice but it's only a 400 and I've been wondering what the performance would be like, has it enough power to pull the chair and three adults on ocassion. Also would draggin the chair around affect the cvt belt life. I've been looing at outfits for a while but I'm reluctant to give up my scooter.

It's a nice looking outfit, but is it a bit expensive for a 2012 Burgman, admittedly very low mileage, is the side car worth about £4k....?

The 2012 model 400 Burgman produces 36 bop and 36 Nm of torque.
Almost identical to the 650 Urals and Dneprs that have been hauling 3 adults, huge loads and even pulling trailers for years.

I've had 5 outfits in my time. Ural 650's were utter garbage but because they were made of cheese and assembled by drunks. 36HP is 50 mph cruising. A 60HP 790 Bonneville with the same chair, or 50 HP Guzzi with a lighter one will do motorways. If you want speed put a Mosquito drop tank (Charnwood Meteor) on a big BMW, cruise at 100 mph+, pass anything except a petrol station.
Power is fine on that Burgervan for anything sensible.
I wouldn't touch it with a long stitck though. It's a heavy chair on a three point mount. Flexible but not your friend. Out of alignment it will eat tyres and belts at an insane rate. If you keep up to the adjustment the little wheels and CVT are not your friend. I used to fit the Bonneville/Ural with knobblies because once squared off they have enough meat left. 3-5000 miles a go, no more. Needs a car tyre to do better.
Have you driven an outfit? You need to get a go on one, your motorcycle experience counts for next to nothing in terms of how steering and power work. That Burgervan has a shimmy issue, they fitted a damper, small wheels are not your friend.
Assuming you like the asymmetrical handling, extra workload of driving an outfit (a well taken left hander, chair tyre just showing daylight gives a true sense of satisfaction), I would reccomend something more conventional unless you really need an automatic. Enfield 650's are bang on for having enough power and proper frames for a 4 point mount.

Fitted, yes, -ish. The hardware is worth what it's worth, they aren't cheap because of the tiny numbers made. The work to get it fitted is worth more, a special skill set. I don't like that 3-point mount but getting someone to repeat the work would be hours of labour.

In the 1980s the MZ TS250 (21 bhp) was available with a sidecar. OK it wasn't fast but it managed.

The nearest modern equivalent are probably the sidecar outfits based around modern 300/350 auto scooters like the GTS300 or Scomadi

I have no relevant experience, I'm afraid.
However CVT systems on 400 Burgmans have coped with extreme weight loads in the USA ( 28 stone rider with a 22 stone pillion for example.)
Accept that consumables are going to wear out quicker and you won;t go far wrong, like belts and rollers, but also brake pads, tyres, etc.

about two guys who rode a Honda SH300i with a custom made side car around the world. They took a fair amount of gear with them so it must of weighed a bit. So I think your right it would cope with it well enough just wear things out a bit quicker. The only day I had free this week is thursday and it's been removed from Watsonians site so I'm assuming it's sold.
