I'd definitely consider some sort of breakdown/repatriation policy.

i see it is a Burgman, nuf said...give it a coat of looking at ( service if close to it's time ) like Julian said if the belt has done a few miles treat it to a new one, take the removed belt with you..should not need much bar standard tool kit....they tend not to go wrong.

For proper touring (ie owt over 1000 miles) I carry this:
Mini socket set
Combination spanners
Multi head screwdriver
Adjustable spanner
Variator locking tool
Pliers
Mini mole grips
Small hammer
Junior hacksaw
LED lamp
Fuses
Gaffa tape
Chemical metal
Folded up wire coathanger
Tie wraps
12V mini compressor
Phone charger lead
mini can WD40
European breakdown insurance
and a few spares:
Fuel pump
Exhaust manifold and associated gaskets
Old baccy tin full of nuts, bolts and washers
Carb and bystarter
CDI unit
Drive belt
Wheel bearings
Assorted hoses and vac lines
Reg/rec
Plug
Bulbs
Coil
1l oil
1l coolant
Tyre plugging kit
and probably more than I've forgotten
That said my scooter is very old and I have all these spares here anyway, and if this sounds like a lot of stuff... well, you'd be surprised how small it all packs up. And, really, all this is a security blanket as much as anything - I rarely have any serious bother, and there's no reason to think that you will either.
As Lyn says, give it a thorough check over before you go - I fell into the trap of thinking my modern scooter would be invincible, but the swingarm bearing that failed on tour last year would have been spotted if I'd been a bit more vigilant before we set off.
Have fun!

I remember you saying "it's got full service history" more than once Jaz .That changed to " Ffinn Italian shite " in Zaragoza .I recon me slowing you and Lyn up extended the life of the bearing .
