Interesting....I just went on Wemoto and looked at their TMax V-belt. They do one by someone seemingly called JT Max - only £60, whilst the Factory one must be at least £120 these days. Only snag is that I've read endless horror stories of after-market belts being utterly useless and entirely unfit for purpose, though Biglee's positive experience is encouraging.

Speaking from experience with my Gilera Nexus 500 and Yamaha Tmax 500, just get the OEM belt. The cheaper one that was supposed to be pattern on my Gilera exploded whilst I was slightly above legal speeds on the M25 in Lane 4 over taking a car, overtaking a lorry, overtaking another lorry. A supposed to fit a Tmax one advertised as such did not actually fit and because I had gotten as a spare part when I came to use it 6 months after purchase the a hole company would not refund.

Yeah, I agree with you guys. OEM is usually best. Always nice to hear other folks experiences though with any aftermarket stuff, just in case it could be useful. I think that experience of yours Funky would be enough to put you off biking! Scary!! Lol...

A I was going a little too fast and I still had lots of forward momentum, just no drive so left indicator went in and I coasted to the hard shoulder. I was lucky nothing got snagged enough to stop rotation.

Hi All, Just got a MK2 Tmax which has had a brand new JT belt fitted. I had a similar experience to Funky when I had a (Bando) belt snap on a Nexus, so want to get it replaced with an OEM. However, Fowlers are on back order and will be about 2 weeks. Has anyone ever used a JT belt for any length of time? I see wemoto.com sell them, so hoping it'll be safe enough to use for about 6-800 miles?

Be fine if not running it for full service period of oem .I've just ordered Mitsuboshi belt off Italian ebay for a mk2 .Oh and easyboost variator tool arrived today off amazon not opened it yet tho .

I just bought one of those too! I broke my trusty home made 2 prong one on my last Tmax and CBA to make one up, or more accurately, give the drawing and spec to my Nephew to do!

I bought a mk3 Tmax belt from easyparts.nl a couple of months ago (official Yamaha part). Things from them usually comes very rapidly (via UPS), and it worked out at just less than £100 as I didn't have to pay VAT on it (I've no idea about how these new VAT rules work!). Everything always seems to be on back order at Fowlers! Easyparts seem to have more things in stock, or probably quicker access to Yamaha's European parts warehouse in the Netherlands, and are much clearer about when things will ship eg things might not be in stock, but they say they'll ship in 2 days or whatever.

Fowlers, what they do not stock is ordered from Honda and arrives in 3-5 days.
