The type I was using was the Tesco Premium which I believe is made by Greenergy
They state:
The Super Unleaded 99 Octane offers an increased octane level that is higher than any other petrol supplier and more environmentally friendly. It also contains a special additive package that enhances engine cleaning, and as a result, delivers further long-term benefits.

It may be that a particular 'named' brand of fuel does suit one particular engine.
I'm not a scientist so I couldn't prove it one way or another.
No, the fuel may have come from the shell refinery. They have a deal to deliver from the nearest refinery to each others stations.

Glad you sorted that one for me - perhaps I should sue Esso for deception since they claim they put certain additives in their diesel and deliver it in Esso tankers.
I should be interested to read your evidence - presumably it's on line somewhere.

Interesting thread here - one of many on Google:

And I put petrol in the Silverwing this afternoon and re-noticed next to the filler-cap the BIG sticker which says,
"UNLEADED FUEL ONLY".

Trust me, you don't want to put diesel in a petrol scooter.

Its all unleaded,

Indeed, but I hope the sticker would say, 'SUPERUNLEADED FUEL ONLY' if one was supposed to use the higher grade since the term 'leaded', although inaccurate, is embedded in the language much as 'hoover' has become a general term for any vacuum-cleaner, whoever it's made by.

I almost always use Super. I find I get about 10% more range than using normal stuff.

And I dont think that the advantage of Super is all about the octane. I reckon that there are benefits due to a generally overall superior formulation.

On cost - yes, it is more expensive but the difference is hardly worth bothering with. At my local Esso normal is 138 and super 143. So on a 10 litre fill that costs me 50p more. but the funny thing is that Super at this station is 1p per litre less than regular at almost every station I see on my commute in.

I think you are missing the point! It's not just about the grade of petrol, there are the additives that are supposed to be better for engine performance and wear, these should benefit "older" engines as well as new.
