No, I'm not missing the point; you are being unnecessarily pedantic.
To many people of my generation, Unleaded indicates lower octane, Super Unleaded indicates higher.
It really is quite simple even if it's not scientifically correct.

It can indicate all it wants to you, but it's not!Waldorf wrote:No, I'm not missing the point; you are being unnecessarily pedantic.

I have made my original posts question bold, that may help you and your generation out (and this time I am being sarcastic)

I was told Super Unleaded is far better than Unleaded petrol for your engine but I would like to hear other opinions?
Would it be better to run Super Unleaded in my 2000 YP250 or would Unleaded do the same job?
PS: Thinking more of reliability rather than economy .

Yes, and sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
I won't stoop as low as that.
As for your question; I answered it in the first place, venturing a considered opinion based on information gleaned from others more knowledgeable than I over many years.
If it isn't the answer you want to hear, so be it, but don't insult people when they take the trouble to try to help you.

Re: Unleaded or Super Unleaded?
I use the higher grade sometimes, and seem to notice a slight increase in performance.....ever been to the usa and tried their petrol ? its so watered down that there cars are sooo sluggish compared to ours, ok a 3.0lt car will still go quick, but it doesnt have to oomph, so a higher octane seems to help ?

Not insulting?
'Grow up'; That's the last thing I want to do at my time of life.
Resorting to insults will do you no good whatever.

Are cars tuned to certain companie's fuel? Which then implies their petroleum products are in fact different!

This thread reminded me as I filled my cage: it has a sticker saying "Ford recommends using BP fuel" - why is that?Waldorf wrote:And I put petrol in the Silverwing this afternoon and re-noticed next to the filler-cap the BIG sticker which says,

I'm sure the reasons for the sticker are entirely financial and not technical in the slightest!Zed wrote:

Most bike & scoot makers have a deal with one particular oil maker so 'recommend' their products, but it makes no difference. Yamaha have their own Yamalube products, but I'm other reputable makers' products would work equally well!
