That would be my luck, the only container that fell off would have my scoot in it!! I picked the panels up today! Only checked the fairing and that's the correct one, should have checked the mudguard, will have a look tomorrow. All going well will tackle the replacement on Sunday!! Then start counting the days until the Joymax arrives... :D

Dont worry it would have my 600 in it as well and the news would show some chav taking it from the beach  Glad you got the bits, you getting any freebies with the Joymax, my dealer is only offering the finance deal so of no use to me.

Data, I'm not sure how you applied the motoman method to your test engine but it sounds to me like you were doing it wrong. As we are in the maxi-scooter world of large engines and CVT/auto drive I'm also puzzled about how anyone could possibly transmit continuous large forces and therefore undesirable heat to the engine?!

Having run in 2 scooters as close to the motoman method as possible (speedup, slow down, repeat for 20 minutes, change the oil) I can tell you from personal experience that when you twist the throttle on even a 171cc machine it leaps forward and very shortly afterwards you need to twist it back again until it's going slowly enough to do it again quite a little while later as engine braking on a CVT is not great. It takes a deserted road to even try that properly.

So quite how Data thinks anyone is going to get even close to over-stressing their new max-scoot engine is beyond me. This is not a test engine on a bench strapped to a dyno, this is in a light weight machine with an auto gearbox. If you open the throttle with 600cc behind you I can guarantee you will be going faster than you want to in very few seconds.

It's a topic that will run and run, but suffice it to say that I haven't found any real world story that has had problems with this method but I find plenty that have problems after the 'book' run in method. e.g (one of many threads: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120623" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ).
We'll always have the Data viewpoint but it's important to remember that our engines are in bikes that move.

Hello Globs, you're such a laugh! So entertaining I just love you to bits.

Just so you know, the oil consumption issue mentioned in your link could not be caused by the 'book' running in method if followed even reasonably correctly. And there lies the problem. Some folk misinterpret the book method, thinking you must ride slowly and use gentle throttle with revs low. Not so at all. Many people often put fully syn oil in the bike at first service too which is a definite no no unless it is designed to use it at that time (this will depend on cylinder material, coating and honing finish used). The GS range is not designed to use fully syn if that's what has happened. It totally kills conforming and ensures the bike uses lots of oil at higher mileages. Incidentally, type of transmission makes no difference. Yes I know you may come back to me on that but if you understand engines you'll know thats right. It may just take an extra 5mins of throttle time to finish the job that's all. But I'm ending this as you clearly are very happy at the moment with what you have done with your engine and that's fine. If you actually knew a bit more about the technicalities of what you are talking about then I suspect like many others have, you would choose differently. Keep scooting! ;)

Spaceprobe I'll pm you later (today if I can with some info you may like).

my nexus 500 which has covered 44,000 miles has never had an oil issue, it gets changed every 3,600 miles (3 times in last three years) and never gobbled a drop :D its a shame she has to go to the dealer in the part ex, i offered it on here for £1050 (£50 more than dealer gave in part ex) and would be a pleasurable and fun ride for someone, but no takers, so soon will be going to the dealer :( still got to look forward to enjoying my new scoot, never thought i would be able to get a new one, thats one reason i lavished my time and efforts on the nexus, but me pension pot came up trumps, and my missus said... ok! go on then
so how many muppets are awaiting their new scoots :?:
1. ME 8-) J300 abs

Well everyone`s different Data in their requirements, mine especially as my arm and get strength is not as it used to be, was to go scoot lighter, sit in rather than sit on, and more of a perky fun ride. The nexus is a beauty, but its more of a sit on (bike type) and i seem to tootle around at 3 to 4000 rpm, a quick blip of throttle now and again :D , very planted, yes will do a full review :D i am like spaceprobe in that i have a 25 mile initial journey home once received scoot, normally it be A2 M25 A20 but i think it will be a better bet to come back on A2 and stay on it to Bexley
