Recently i've been doing a few trips on dual carriageways and M-ways. Whilst my GTS 250
been fine doing 60mph. It still simply lacks accelleration around the 50-60+mph mark. Which
obviously means I'm often stuck in the left lane. Also once it hits an indicated 110kmh(68mph)
which means it probably doing a genuine 60mph it's at 6250rpm. The handling also tends to get
a little vague past this point.
So I was thinking of getting an over 400cc 2nd hand machine for no more than £2000. Reason being
i'd rather have a much a bigger cc machine to use for longer trips and the odd commute. I can't sell
my GTS, it's just to good for my commute but it simply lacks ooomph for the bigger roads. Obviously
i'd use the bigger machine for the odd commute so it doesn't lie around doing nothing.
My budget/cc size leaves pretty much only the Mk 1 Tmax and earlier Silverwings. But I can't decide which
would be best. I see the Tmax as being a sports scooter whilst the Silverwings obviously a tourer. But the Silverwing
has larger storage & a bigger engine but then it also weighs more. Whilst the T-max lacks storage, has a smaller
engine but then it's lighter and would probably handle better.
So which one?! Input from previous/current owners of Silverwings and Mk1 T-max's would be great. Especially those who've
ridden or better yet owned both.

If you're struggling for funds to buy a second machine, you'll probably also struggle to keep it on the road.
Far better to trade the Sym GTS for a newer used 400 imo.
Is Loony's still for sale?

What the hell are you on about?! I never mentioned I was struggling for funds. I said i didn't want to spend more thangn2 wrote:If you're struggling for funds to buy a second machine, you'll probably also struggle to keep it on the road.

£2000 as in I was budgeting for that amount and only the two machines I've mentioned are available for that amount.
Don't want to start a argument but I don't want a 2nd hand Nexus or X9 500.
I don't want a 400 mainly because 2nd hand they fetch more, presumably as they are the biggest unrestricted scooters you can buy for the restricted license. Only the older carbed Burgmans or really tatty/high mileage injected ones come in budget. I'd rather have a bigger cc machine anyway - only the extra use of fuel puts me off, but then I won't be doing massive mileage.
Of course I could PX my 250 for a 400, but then that'll cost more, I'm not interested in any of the current 400's and it'd leave me with the one machine. I'd rather have two, so if one breaks down you've still got the other to use.

Calm down... the first word in my post was "if"Drago wrote:What the hell are you on about?! I never mentioned I was struggling for funds.
No offence was intended, I just think you would be daft to spend two grand on a ten year? old Tmax or Wing when two grand plus the proceeds from your GTS sale would get you a far newer 400.
Lower running costs too.

Early Silverwings are not the most economical in the fuel-consumption department.
Can't speak for the Tmax.

As said....if you give a Mk1 it will get a bit of a drink problem.
If i ride mine without giving it full throttle all the time i can get it into the low 60 mpg

Surprised at what you say the GTS will do.
I quite happily rode my sport city on the motorway for a few years.
It doesn't vibrate at 75mph.
If its just for the odd motorway trip then I wouldn't disregard the option of a different 250,
Seen sport citys about for around £1300

Even my 250s will happily be on a motorway. Yours sound like a performance of a 125.
Mine will average top out at a real mid 70s and with the wind behind and a hill maybe another 5-7 can be added to that.
