New scooter rider

Post by scottthelot »

Hi,
I have just brought an gilera nexus 500 & i love it!
I have never owned a scooter before so all new to me!
I have been a motorcycle owner for many years & gutted I never done this sooner.
It is the best way to get around the city of London.
I have had some problems with the scooter but nothing major.
I have found since I have been riding the scooter that there is not alot of love lost between scooter riders & motorcycle riders!

Oh ya, maxi scoots are certainly fun in London.

I've not had any problems with (other) bikers yet whilst on my scooter, if they start then I'll switch to my race spec Moto Guzzi V65 Lario & leave them with red faces when I insult their manhoods for riding "lesser brands". Basically, don't worry about the biker snobbery, we're all on two wheels, but we all get a bit miffed by 16 year old suicidal ped riders who don't maintain their rides & usually have no brakes.

My rules of nodding to other two wheel road users:

In London? don't nod, too much going on to take my eyes off the road.
Riding without gloves, you don't get a nod cos you're a moron.
Riding in shorts/t-shirt, enjoy your roadrash, you'll not get a nod as I don't like paying for your skin grafts.
Everyone else gets the nod unless doing so would put either me or you in danger (e.g. might be misinterpreted by a cager as an affirm to cross my or your path at a junction).

Enjoy

I'm another motorcycle rider who switched to a maxi and is sorry that I didn't do so sooner.

I've put Tucano Urbano muffs on for winter, so the traditional hand signal that we give to other riders is not the safest thing, but there are not a lot of riders out in winter here. In spring, icon_power-ranger.gif

Vespa GTS300 Super for practical runabout, Triumph Tiger Explorer for conquering the planet. Car almost obsolete.

Hi Scott, welcome!

The arrogance,, the self important attitude of superiority,, the thinking that one type of machine is better than the other,, the failure to wave.

I make no apologies,, motorcyclists will have to accept me as I am

Bollox! They aren't that slow !
Get your knee down on the Snake? :? Most of it is long sweeping bends, some of it shit road surface and a lot of it's a 50 limit.
