Do I sell 3 scooters and just buy one ?

Post by martb4632 »

Im in a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate any other members thoughts and opinions ?

Currently I have a LML 125 2 stroke, a LML 150 4 stroke, and an old but very nice Foresight 250 :) I am thinking of selling all 3 when the weather picks up and using the cash to buy just one newish 300 - 600 maxi scoot.
Reason being the cost of taxing, insuring, servicing etc 3 scooters. Also I find that when riding the LML's I get almost no respect from other road users ( car drivers and sports bike riders especially  ) even when riding at the legal speed limits I get cut up and have vehicles pulling out in front of me from junctions etc.
This happens a lot less when I'm on the Foresight which obviously has more road presence.
I got back into classic style scooters as I had them as a teenager 30 years ago but back then there was a lot less traffic and what there was seemed to travel slower and there was less road rage etc !
I'v been to a few scooter rallies on my LML's and met a few really nice people but in the main I don't really feel I fit into the scooter scene any more :(

Just musing at the moment and I dont need to do anything drastic but I shoud raise about £3200 from the 3 scoots and am considering a SYM GTS 300, Piaggio XEVO 400, Yamaha T max or even a Silverwing 600.
I just want to commute about 20 miles a day and occasionally take day trips into south wales and the seaside which are about 100 miles away from my home.

It makes economic sense in these straightened times and I also found that when I owned two machines in my biking days that one of them never got enough usage to justify it's bed and board. I'd go for one big one !

Don't know if its any use to you but I went through a similar thing myself.

I had a collection of vehicles, a couple of them collectors items and a boat tail special I built myself, stuff that wasn't easy to let go.
I started to feel that the maintenance was becoming a chore and the cost of keeping them legal was getting ridiculous and age made some of them less than 100% reliable. Did I want to be down the inspection pit or on the road?

I sold up and just have one car, the Burgman and an electric for nipping to the shops.
I miss riding/driving the "character" stuff, but not the running costs or time demands.

I enjoyed them at the time, but I don't regret down-sizing

What you are proposing does make sense, except that even Japanese scoots aren't 100% reliable and having 2 scoots gives you one to fall back on! Or maybe you have a car as well?
Maybe you should consider keeping your favourite of the LMLs as back up or for use on special occasions.

Yeah...what Grumpy says makes sense, but nah...just get one big one and give it all your love. Bikes don't go wrong like they used to years ago, and if it does, it's usually something simple! Apart from a flat battery due to my own stupidity, I've never had a bike let me down in the last 100,000 miles...oh, and one puncture aside on my Burgman which stopped me for a couple of hours. And all I do these days is take it to my dealer for servicing. Hardly touch it myself at the moment. Have fun deciding though, it's a fun time choosing.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...

i can see one fatel flaw in this plan

if you have own more then one scoot

you will always want more

im in the same boat

the vespa gt200 will do everything i want

BUT

it wont ever come out in bad weather light rain maybe but any salt then no

so need a scoot for that

obviously the snow i walk anyway

The snag is that there will never be one perfect scooter which will satisfy all needs and wants.
So I would say it's better to have one imperfect scooter than three.

Id keep one lml, because there defo is a certain charm to a trad scoot that you just cant get from any modern scoot. Flog the other two and buy a used sh300. icon_moped.gif
