Being a trusting sort of idiot I ebayed this without seeing it, I know I know.

Seems to have done almost no miles in the last 4 years but has a current mot.

Total miles 24K and from what I can see a sad case of neglect.

Issues that are obvious and I can fix myself:-

Needed over a litre of oil in the crankcase (I thought as much when I saw the dirty state of the filler)

Front pads down to the backing making very nasty noises

Other obvious things:-

Paking brake seized (off)

Baldy rear tyre

Boot lid strut duff

On the positive side it starts and runs, steers and the clutch seems ok. It took very little coolant and doesn't overheat if left to idle.

It's going to have to go into the garage for the rear brakes and tyre, (I'm assuming the wheel has to come off to get the brakes?) so any suggestions of additional work I should ask to be done at the same time would be welcome.

Brake fluid change, general service, maybe a check on the fork seals as well as it hasn't been used in a while.
Check date on the front tyre and if its over 4 years old I'd be inclined to change it as well.
Valve clearences mightn't be a bad idea either.

These are things I would do but I generally do it myself, might be expensive if a garage is doing it.

Thank you for that Dave, I feel bad not doing it myself, as I could, but I know a good bike mechanic, have a bad back, short sight, and no space to work.

I've arrived at the stage where I just want to ride it and sod the expense.

Unfortunately the wife won't quite sod it with the same enthusiasm, hence the old bike, and then the repairs can get sort of lost in the accounting.

How much did you pay? Im looking at a K1 up for £1100 at the moment

1100 oddly enough, though in retrospect probably too much bearing in mind I had to throw 480 at it immediately to make it roadworthy.
The rear brake caliper is an expensive repair it seems.
I'm going to take it to the Algarve (shipped, not ridden!) over the winter and it might not be coming back. Scooter repairs are much cheaper there, as there are lots of them and plenty of resourceful mechanics. No mot either which means there are some dreadful old rustbuckets on the roads.

I'm sure you will easily find one to suit your budget and I wish you luck.

You could have invested a little bit more and bought my K8 Burgman 400 with all mechanical service work done also now with recent new front tyre, rollers and belt.

I know I know, I'm the original one born every minute. In this case although I did look at your bike at the time the distance put me off, I'm in the deep south.

Al vouch for bornagains burgy, its mint and well looked after, looks new!
