Getting rid of old oil

Post by Funkycowie »

Unlike the chavs around where I live who chuck bottles of used oil on the side of the road, down a drain, etc. I would like to dispose of my used oil the proper way, I have a 5 litre bottle in the garage of used oil from two oil changes...

Where do I take it?

Are there any fees?

Do they just take the bottle or can I have it back?

Local council dumps have oil disposal. You just pour you stuff in. If you're not sure give your local one a call first.

Edit - here's confirmation that the Harlow dump takes oil -http://www.essex.gov.uk/Environment%20P ... ntres.aspx

yes we can recycle oil at dump, just pour it in... in bromley we have to show a certificate we live there, given to us by the council... or we cant get in
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

That's what you get for being south of the river - too many dodger geezers over there. If I had my way there'd be passport control at the Woolwich Ferry...

Our council tip/recycling facility does it too, but you need ID proving you live in the area to get in.

Mix it with diesel and use as a creosote substitute. 8-)

I just paint my shed with it as it is, take about 2 days to soak in and dry, then when it rains on it - it settles like bead of water as on a newly polished car. Been using it for years. When I was in the motor trade I tried new oil, it just don't work

Cool never done it before... just found a two litre bottle near the back of garage from a Nexus oil change... so I think I have about 6 litres of used oil, you think they will be suspicious?
