winter tyres

Does anyone use winter tyres on their scooters? I'm just wondering whether to get any for my burgman for the autumn/winter/spring and possibly summer time periods . Do people notice a difference in handling/fuel consumption etc? I'm up in the north pennines surrounded by yokells, tractors and quite shockingly bumpy roads (like the rest of the country!) I was thinking of getting a second set of wheels with summer/winter tyres on like I do the car......

any advice?

I use my 400 Burgman more in winter, I found the Michlin City Grips a really good all year round tyre, but especially good for winter riding.

I've got city grips on the Xevo, they work well and saw me through last years snow safely. The thing with winter tyres that puts me off is the cost of swapping them over come the spring.

I reckon you does need a set of winter wheels to go with the winter tyres...?
Too much of a faff for me, can't say that I've ever been riding along in the writer and thought to myself, hey what I really need is a second set of wheels to swap.
Do you change them the night before according to the forecast, what if you wake up in the morning and its warm enough for normal tyres...?

No, although it is mandatory (in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, ...) during winterly road conditions (snow, ice). If the roads aren't cleared, the officers habe enough trouble with the trucks and cages.
I use all season tires like

They look like dedicated winter tyres (identical profile, but different rubber and M+S label).
If I would not live in the lowlands, I would probably buy another set of wheels with winter tires.

I guess the snag is in the UK that 'winter' conditons are so unpredictable, so you need winter tyres to work up to practically summer conditions, cos it may be winter again next week! Taking scooter rear wheels off is such a faff as well.
Personally I think that if conditions are that bad, its not scooter weather anyway. I've never had a real difficulties riding scooters in normal winter conditions - obviously grip can decline with temperatures, so care is needed, especially as surfaces can vary - but wet summer roads can be just as slippery!

That's the most practical option, it's what the inlaws do for their car

I appreciate the offer but I'd still need a mechanic to fir them properly - I don't mind fannying around with electrics/bodywork but wheels and brakes I'd rather leave to someone fully competent.

I think this is the reason people in England don't bother with winter tires.
