Is this Honda's 1,000cc scooter?

Post by MjW »

Some might have missed that although its from last year. I sure did. heh

BEFORE the launch of the Integra scooter last year we showed you these designs – patented by Honda and clearly based on the same idea as the New Mid concept that led to the Integra.

Originally, we thought they might represent the production version of the New Mid concept bike, but it turned out the real Integra was a perfect facsimile of the New Mid, lacking the aggression of these drawings. Now Honda has announced it is to launch a new large bike as a follow-on to the New Mid (if the 700cc Integra is “mid” we're guessing “large” must be 1000cc or so) – so could the drawings actually be representative of that bike instead?

The designer is Hiroaki Tsukui, who was also responsible for the New Mid/Integra along with an illustrious list of past achievements including the VTR1000, SP-1, the first and second generation FireBlades and the CBR600RR.

Compared with the over-stylised scribble that Honda showed at the time of the 'New Large' announcement, there are (vague) similarities between it and this design's front end, as well as a similar shape for the stepped seat unit.

Who knows???? It looks like bit like a quick design sketch to me. Interesting that it seems to have the same fake clutch cover sticking out on the RHS as the Integra.

There has been some chat / speculation that Honda are going to launch something along the same principles as the NC/Integra (with DCT) but larger. I've seen speculation that it would be 1300cc but that just seems silly to me - a 1300cc engine for economy? And Honda already have a nearly new 1200cc V4 in the VFR and Crosstourer. I would speculate (on the basis of no evidence) that something around 1000cc - with relatively low power (iro75-90bhp) & high torque would make more sense. If the NC engine is 2 cylinders off a Jazz, why not do a 3 cylinder version?

As for the sort of bike /scoot, it seems that Honda are now keen to use one set of mechanical bits in as many configurations as possible, so its likely to appear in several versions - naked probably, Adventure style bike definitely, tourer - possibly, 'scooter' possibly, though if the Integra hasn't set the sales charts alight, maybe not!

There again, Honda's product planning follows principles that are often perplexing to most other people, so something completely different may appear!!!

Just noticed - only one front brake disk??? Scary for a 1000cc
Maybe it was an alternative sporty version of the Integra........

Well it just looks likemy Integra to me, and Yes Honda are doing a new 750cc NC scoot as well. I had a word with the dealer last week, they can no longer order 700ccNC's.

Yup, a hole for at least 1 full size lid minimum, I hate carrying mine around and even helmet locks are fiddly at best and I don't like my lid resting on the paintwork!
