Polini Maxi Hi-Speed variator

Hi

Has anyone fitted one of the above to any of your scoots, and, if so, were the performance gains worthwhile, and how much is it likely to cost to have fitted?

Save your money and at least try Dr Pulley's instead.

Sound advice to try pulleys first.

I did too, and there was a very noticeable difference. Though now I want more and I'm looking into variators myself. lol

The only way you'll increase it after Dr Pulleys with any real noticeable difference will be a with a turbo fitted

dr pulley do variators as well now designed to run with sliders .Thats not bad price for 9 roller pollini tho bearing in mind only 6 in original it will rev more at lower speeds basically get most from engine but not increase actual power

I was planning to fit those nice "racing" spark plugs everyone is raving about in the other thread and a j-costa or malossi variator next year. If it is as you say maybe I should just fit the spark plugs and start considering a street triple or something more retro/cafe racer.

brisk spark plugs and a sports air filter... dr pulleys and a polini contra spring and thats it your sorted

Thanks for the help so far

Have had a look on the Dr Pulleys website, and have concluded that the Runner needs 21 x 17s for the 200 engine

Standards appear to be 10.7g, so I presume I'd need something like 9.5g to make a worthwhile difference

Is anyone prepared to stick their neck out and confirm whether or not I've got that right?

If you just want to pep it up a little then standard weight - 10% should be enough unless you want big improvements in acceleration at the cost of top end speed .

I'll say this, the only real and I mean real way to get any gain is to go the full hog, 225 kit, variator, lightened fly wheel, valves, the list goes on. Then at the end of the day you get very little bang for your buck. As for rollers and sliders the best way is trial and error to find the set up you're happy with, what suits one doesn't suit another. But another way if you've got a full license is get a bigger scooter. Oh and the 9 roller variator.....I know lads that had them and went back to the 6's.
