In a couple of months I will have to have this done, it includes a valve check which I don't feel competent enough to try. Up until now I have been doing all the servicing as they are things I have figured out how to do as time passed. However it would be nice just to hand it over to a professional this time round to get her running smoothly and he might spot things I do not.
So has any one had the big 24k mile service and how much did it cost you?

The valve check is basically 2 hours labour at a dealer, so something like £100 or so, depending on your dealer and where you live (London prices are more, obviously). Frankly, on the basis that it only comes around once in a long time, it might be easier to let the dealer handle it........

Yeah I don't want to do it myself just wanted an idea of how much it would cost if I let the dealer handle the whole lot.
I am anticipating it could be a few hundred quid possibly more.

The check is less labour time compared to them being reshimmed if out of spec and you would be really unlucky at 24 K for them to out of spec and need re shimming .

It won't be that much! (unless you're in London possibly...)Funkycowie wrote:Yeah I don't want to do it myself just wanted an idea of how much it would cost if I let the dealer handle the whole lot.

Re: 24k mile service on a TMax
I am near enough to London to have places charge me £45ph
With my limited self learnt knowledge I'd at least like to have a professional look at it once in a while during a major service to make sure everything is tickety boo for my own piece of mind that everything is in order. I have changed the fuel pump myself, even the bloody hard to get thermostat, filters, spark plugs, done the oil, brake oil, etc... but there is some free play in the throttle and don't want mess with that myself.
So if any one has actually had the big 24k mile service I'd like to know just how much it cost so I could get an idea...

Re: 24k mile service on a TMax
My last 12,000 mile service (basically the same as 24K but without valve check) cost me £230 if I remember correctly - but that included £60 for various filters alone! As I said, the valve check is scheduled to take an extra 2 hours labour, so roughly £80 extra for you. This is without changing the drive belt.
I must admit that I've never heard of anyone ever finding that the clearances actually needed adjusting when they were checked!

just make sure you ask them to only do the job you want them to do and not more:
