Gilera runner.
I am thinking of buying a runner 180.I know some of them have been tuned to within an inch of their lives, but if I can locate a standard one what are they like to own and ride ? Thanks in advance for any replies. Ride safe.

Re: Gilers runner.
FAST and STINKY!
Good luck finding a std one is this day and age...
All will prolly be wearing an open sponge filter and Scorpion or PM Pipe... plus a load of anodised trinkets and baubles
And will be leaning to one side due to the single shock and worn bushings...
A Piece of history though...

Re: Gilera runner.
I had an fxr180 which was great fun. Fast on acceleration but heavy on fuel if you thrashed it. I think it was in the low 40s per gallon. It had drum brakes on the back and wasn't as sort after as the sp180 with discs front and rear. Handling was OK but could have been better considering it encouraged you to ride like a loon.
I've also owned 125 and 180 four stroke runners. Obviously more economical but not quite as much fun.
I do like the shape of the first runners compared to the upgraded ones from 2006 ish?
I decided about 3 years ago, my scooter collection was getting too big so all the runners had to go. I got a good price for the 125 but I let the fxr go for peanuts and the vxr I gave to my brother

I had three Runners, 125, 200 and 180. The 180 was one of the last to be imported to the UK and it was the most fun i have ever had on any scooter i have ever owned and would buy another if i could.

Re: Gilera runner.
Whilst at Italjet we used the Runner 180 as a handling comparison for the Dragster 180 with the same engine - and frankly, I shat myself on the Dragster.
We fixed it later, but a properly set up 180 Runner is as much a giant-killer as the 350LC was in it day.
Buy, preserve, ride, look after, stuff (the opposition).
Only the Italjet Formula 125 hub-centre steered twin would beat it, in its day.

No door is closed to an open mind.
Except a closed door, which a mind can't open, but even a stupid hand can.

Re: Gilera runner.
Had 3 180SP's all great fun and left standard except hardened engine mount bushes , The exausts rust and the early ones had shit forks but they were quick off the mark and great 2 stroke smell, Traded for a 4 stoke 200 which was bland in comparison . Now have a t max which is better but probably not as quick to 30 !!
