As I've said before, I don't think that TMax build quality is quite what it used to be...the centrestand on my mk4 Tmax has gone appreciably rusty within 18 months, to the extend that Yamaha are going to give me a new one under warranty! The stand on my mk3 went similarly rusty, but waited until it was 2.5 years old until it did so.
So...it strikes me that whilst I will get a new stand, its liable to rust as fast as the old one! Any ideas on how I can prevent this?? On the mk3 I painted it with hammerite, which was effective on the upper parts but seemed to be blasted off the lower parts.
Wouldn't mind but I had the bike ACF50 treated in the autumn...

Regular treatments of PlastiDip on the most exposed parts after repaint?

Well, true, but it does look quite shitty...on the mk3 and this one, the pivot assembly at the top of the LHS had gone rusty, and it was far too visible off the scoot. And of course, if it keeps rusting, it will eventually fail, though how that would be I don't know!smeghead wrote:Or just don't worry too much. It's just a stand innit!

I guess the centre bar gets a blast of road grit and the paint is thinner these days . My Mk 2 stand has a few marks/chips but no rust . You can get helicopter tape to tape on the centre bar , but I guess you just to keep an eye on it , acf 50 gets blasted off quickly

Yes...I guess thats what happened to the Hammerite I tried on the mk3. Mk2 Tmax definitely better built!!!tmaxrobbo wrote:I guess the centre bar gets a blast of road grit and the paint is thinner these days . My Mk 2 stand has a few marks/chips but no rust .
