Del's 100 Mile Ride Out

Post by Raven »

We did Del's 100 mile ride out today, in memory of Del Wilton, one of our Paramedics who took his own life last year. There were around 100 bikes and 1 maxi scooter (Sandy  & me).
We had a great ride, if a little on the cold side, especially along the coast road to Lands End. Was quite amusing really at the start all the bikers were looking at each others bikes, no one cast an eye over my 650 Burgman. We set off with us being about 1/3 from the front and soon settled down to a steady riding pattern. In Truro we came to a halt at some traffic lights and all the bikes were around us revving away with there loud exhausts I switched to power mode. ;) On the green light I wound the throttle back and she shot away leaving quite a few of the bikes behind, as the riders gained speed and passed us by quite a few of them were looking at us wondering what had just happened   On another stretch of good road and on a slight incline a few of the bikes started to speed on a bit so as it was a clear road and nothing coming I wound the throttle back again and we went whizzing by a few of the bikes leaving them thinking (have I just been passed by a scooter). One thing I did notice was after about 60 miles how many of the bikes had pulled over and the riders were stretching their arms & legs, also when riding along they are shaking their hands and sticking their legs out   There we were riding along with heated seats & grips listening to music in our helmets all nice and comfy. Anyway we all had a good day and a laugh and at the finish we had hot tea & cakes, and it was quite amusing to see how many riders went over to look over our Burgman. I think a few had their way of thinking changed.

Sandy was taking some pictures on the way

So as I said we all had a fun filled day and everyone had a safe ride plus we helped raise £500 for Marie Curie & Portreath Coast Guard icon_clap.gif

Great camaraderie is something tin tops just dont have and combine that with the freedom and wind in the face with the chance to see so much more of our beautiful land and wildlife .This was all done and enjoyed while still raising funds for a charity and sparing a thought for the one who passed away . The way it should be imho .Nice pick with you at the front .
