As if my Tmax 530 Envy wasn't bad enough...

Post by SkuTorr »

Just got in on Friday from the 5-day Tour of the Sierras! Amazing run!!!

(The only downside was watching my neighborhood on TV going up in FLAMES, while I was 700 miles away at 8,000 feet, with uncontrolled California Wildfires...

The hill above my home...

Everything was still here when I returned..they lifted the evacuation order and we went home Saturday. :D )

BUT, back to the 530. Before we put the MIVV on my brother's 2012 Tmax 530, he was averaging about 52 MPG (American). That's 62.4 for you all across the pond. Not bad, eh? Better than Yamaha claims.

So, 600 miles through the Sierra Nevada mountains with the new MIVV exhaust, from 1,000 to 10,000 feet in elevation and 40-100 degrees f. Mileage? The LOW was 67.2 MPG for one leg, and the HIGH was 73.2 for another. WHAAAAT? :o

Across the board a SOLID 5-6 MPG BETTER than my Tmax 500. Bastard.

Great photos. Is that Half Dome? And amazing MPG.
I did a tour like that back in '91...on a Harley. The whole nine yards, as they say. left Las Vegas at 2am to miss the Mojave heat and ran out of gas as I was running into the Gas station in Barstow. That bike must have been running on air for 30 miles! I will always remember the great welcome we had on approaching a just opening diner..."good morning" she said 'Californian omelet's on special this morning-coffee" God Bless America!

A C600Sport was supposed to have joined us on the trip. He's been waiting with it at the Dealer for FOUR WEEKS to get approval from the Regional Service Tech for repair of a chattering clutch, oil leak into the variator area, and intermittent timing chain noise/rattling.

I was really disappointed that he couldn't make it. It would have been even MORE fun!

That's great mileage, I only get about 60-65 mpg from my Majesty.

Skutor ,firstly glad your home is all ok and hopefully no locals got hurt . Thats great mpg from a big maxi . If you have some more pics of your tour to post ,it would be great to see them judging by the first picture . I take it thats one of the early batch of 600 bm`s with the usual issues .

Hmmm....now why can't I get any better figures out of my mk4 Tmax than I could with my mk3?? I really notice no difference at all.

It was only after we changed it out to an MIVV exhaust! The manufacturer claimed about a 2hp increase at higher rpms, and also an increase in torque at lower/mid rpms. It must have been true, it's the only thing to account for the mileage increase. :o With the old system we were dead even at full throttle; with the MIVV he pulls away from me...

The old OEM system measured at 80Db with my phone app, the MIVV at 83Db. Pretty close. The exhaust aperture in the Db killer is the EXACT same size as the OEM, and there was an interesting flow-through baffling system inside. The sound was just a bit more aggressive, the exhaust gas SPEED out the back was MUCH faster, and the system has a slip-fit crossover pipe between the exhaust downpipes, to help with scavenging and flow. Furthermore, it weighed about 8 pounds less, and came with a nifty homologation compliance card for your wallet!

dont know if im right :?: but ever increasing eu laws with regards to emissions seem to affect fuel consumption and dont know if the Euro 6 (2014) will affect it more :?:
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
