Newer 650's... Mpg?

Toying with the idea of buying a nearly new 650 next year to replace both my 400 & 1200RT.
I'd like some idea of mpg in general use.
Yes it's important to me as I'll be using it for both pottering around and touring so to get an idea would be really helpful.

I have been on rides with a few new B650's and the mpg is much better than the old ones, on a 3 day ride the owners were very pleased with them. I was on my 2013 Deauville and they were filling up with less fuel needed than me. I usually get about 63 mpg, so they were in the late 60's-70mpg. The tank range would be about 160-180 miles. My Deauville would go that bit further on a tankful.

Unsure of the exact mpg,i never have taken much notice on any of my bikes,but i have found the mpg far better on the 2013-on compared to the olders Burgmans.I am currently running-in my present Burgman,so riding it in a fairly sensible manner from a full tank i am on 175 miles with 2 bars still showing,been keeping it well under 4k rpm and vary the speeds,with 60 mph being the max "A"roads 50-55 mph and other roads around 40mph except where there is a 30mph speed limit

May of helped you,but for pottering around...yes it is far better,for touring i guess it will depend on amount of luggage you take,will you be two-up ect,clearly if you're cranking it up on motorways,no bike is going to give good mpg,but minor A roads and country lanes its gonna be good.What better mpg you may gain on other bikes,you are going to loose the comfort factor given from the Burgman.

Pottering around town on the new 650 Burg I am getting 44mpg. On the way back from Bovington today I was getting 63mpg while chugging along gently at 65. Dropped to 56mpg when I hit the motorway, noticed the dark rain clouds and ran at a steady 75-80. On the way down there this morning while rushing to meet my RC boat club I was only getting 38mpg but was in a rush so was going in excess of 100 though the bike was loaded up.

If they put a bigger engine in, I think that would help. A 230kg bike with automatic gearbox etc is a lot for a 650 to pull. Compared to my XT1200 the mpg is far better at sub 85mph. The XT used to get 38 pottering around town and 48 at decent speeds else where. If I road like my granny was on the back it was awesome. Rode from St Malo to Le Mans in a group, one of whom had only just passed her test. Limping along at 50mph(40 on bends) I was getting 78-90mpg! Kind of like running in the burg where I would see 70mpg fairly often

I totally agree with the excessive weight having the most effect on the fuel consumption , I think the big burg is more like 275 kg , I also feel it's time they gave it more power .

Big burg is 230kg (feels light after the XT). I have noted that the wind affects the mpg a lot. Today while I was bimbling along the motorway at around the 75-80 mark into a strong headwind the mpg dropped to 49-50 ish. After I took to the the A and B roads that were more sheltered and a steady 65-70 it went back up to 58 - 64.

Ok I stand corrected. The XT was around the 300kg with all the junk I had on it. The burg feels sooooo much lighter probably down to the weight being so low. Mind you, when I sat on anything under a 1000cc it feels like a 125!
