Confession Time - the scooters gone

Post by roadster »

Yes the Kymco AK550 has been traded in and I am now without a scooter. You might read in other posts that I have plans but for now I'll have to be satisfied with my Triumph Tiger 850. Not really utility machine but once I get a big top box mounted it might do the occasional shopping trip; but probably won't feel right to do longer journeys till the end of the month though. In any case now that I have a new machine it'll probably rain for the rest of the month at least.

Without wanting to pry I guess you got a good deal with the new Tiger 900 launched?

How would you sum up the AK550 as I know someone (on here) being tempted by another TMax, which is a big price premium on the Kymco.

I have posted quite a lot about the AK550 if you search my posts you will find some reviews. It is in effect a motorcycle in scooter clothing with the added benefits of a clean belt final drive, good storage space, and some weather protection. It is a heavy machine and difficult to push around in tight spaces so a reverse drive of some sort would be a big help, but that is the only real complaint that influenced my decision to get rid of it. The only sense in which I got a good deal is that I now have Triumphs new Tiger 850 and there won't be many more available before the tail end of summer. Triumph also dropped the price a little from the previous Tiger 900 base model which it replaces which makes it the best value in the Tiger range in my view.

I guess Poldark is talking about me :D yes i will probably be replacing both my steads for one sometime this year, another Tmax is certainly on my list of possibles as is the Forza 750,would be more than happy to try a AK550 they look nice and are a decent spec, but as i have mentioned on more than one occasion the dealer network is pants, what i know about engines and tinkering can be written on the back of a postage stamp,i would need a dealer within reasonable distance.I do have a full license, but just love the comfort of a Maxi Scooter, storage ect, still a bit gutted Suzuki have withdrawn their B650,loved all the ones i had....

My feelings exactly! Also for me, there is now no longer a Yamaha dealer within 40 miles, which may make me consider a Forza 750 in due course. Whilst I have a very low opinion of the local Honda dealer, at least I HAVE a local Honda dealer!

Very nice indeed Stephen. Well done and can we expect an appraisal of the bike soon?
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...
